COMMUNITY OUTDOOR EMERGENCY WARNING SIREN

On 9-24-2007 the City of Windsor's new Community Outdoor Warning siren went operational. During seasons of inclement weather, safety for the residents of the City is a priority for the cities' local government. The City utilizes a severe weather siren to notify residents when a tornado warning has been issued for any part of Shelby County or if a tornado or funnel cloud has been spotted by appropriate personnel. The siren can be heard throughout the City, but is not designed to be heard inside a building or residence.

It is highly recommended that each residence, business, school and church purchase a weather alert radio that automatically sets off a tone alerting you of a tornado warning. If the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning for any part of Shelby County or if the appropriate personnel spots a funnel cloud or a tornado, the siren will sound for (3) THREE MINUTES then shut off. THERE IS NO ALL CLEAR SOUND WHEN THE WARNING HAS BEEN CANCELLED OR ALLOWED TO EXPIRE.

The City will test the siren on the 1st Tuesday of every month at 10:00am, unless there is a threat of inclement weather. The monthly tests are conducted to test the operation of the siren and to familiarize the citizens with the sound of the siren, if a tornado or funnel cloud would ever threaten.

Any questions about the Community Outdoor Warning Siren can be directed to Chief Sean McQueen-217-459-2282.

Thank-you.
